One of the questions that we get asked from time-to-time involve running Background Checks for new employees. This topic is a actually a legal / HR issue outside of the insurance area and, as such, we can't give clients any legal or business guidance. At the same time; some of our insurance companies provide resources to clients in this area and we'd like to make those resources available to our clients. I have researched some of these resources and compiled the following list that I hope you might find helpful:
- Cincinnati has a discounted service arrangement with Intellicorp (one of the largest vendors in the industry). Information on this program is available at https://www.cinfin.com/business-insurance/loss-control/alliances/background-screening-services including instructions and links for participating. (Note that you may have to use Internet Explorer to access this site).
- USLI partners with BackgroundInfoUSA and has their program described at http://www.bizresourcecenter.com/screenings.html
- EMC has some great information and a good general article at https://www.emcins.com/losscontrol/insights-d/2016/10/background-checks/
- I would also recommend that you read through some of the information provided by the Nonprofit Risk Management Center at https://www.nonprofitrisk.org/?s=background&post_type=nrmc_resource
- Finally, there is a professional association of Background Screeners that has some good information on https://www.napbs.com/resources/for-consumers/
Again, I hope that you will find some of this information helpful in your effort to properly manage your business or non-profit. Feel free to contact Mitchell Insurance with questions at any time.
