Ordering MVRs in Pennsylvania
In many cases, the reasons for letting someone go are quite obvious and difficult for employers to ignore. This includes things that can be measured, like a decline in performance made clear by shrinking sales numbers and frequent absences. Then there are the ones that are witnessed or reported from other workers, such as poor team dynamics and low overall morale.

Small businesses are an integral part of evert community throughout the country. They are critical to the health of our local economies while providing a range of essential services and enhancing diversity. After all, these enterprises are staffed by members of the very communities they serve and are, in turn, able to weather the inevitable ups and downs of economic growth and recession through the support of loyal local customers.

Even businesses with the most effective Human Resources Departments and the happiest of employees are vulnerable to lawsuits. Unforeseen situations can quickly escalate, positive working relationships can turn sour, and employees can become litigious, sometimes without valid reason. Unfortunately, even the most bogus claims must be addressed in court, and legal fees associated with winning a lawsuit can exceed $250,000, which hardly feels like a victory.

Few can forget the epic expletive-rich scene in which Clark Griswold is given a jelly of the month membership in lieu of his expected bonus in the holiday classic National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. A longstanding tradition among small and large businesses alike, holiday bonuses provide a well-earned gift for valuable employees in appreciation for their hard work and commitment. Employees plan on these bonuses to offset increased holiday expenditures and often include them in their compensation expectations.

We've had a number of clients ask questions about not just insurance but small business loans, grants, payroll protection, and the family first act. We're trying to keep informed to help direct those questions. We can't offer legal of financial advice, but we've been trying to help our clients wade through the muddy waters of the information that is out there and give advice about how this effects their insurance and how they can prevent or mitigate new risks that could arise. (And advice is always free).

There is a PA work comp statute - 305.2 that says if you have employees who travel out of state to work and they have a work comp claim, the claim will be covered by your Pennsylvania work comp policy. That statute is in force to protect your employees and assure that mandated coverage will be provided.
I recently read a newsworthy article from the National Workers' Compensation Defense Network by Robert F. Horn, Esquire. In a nutshell, the article desribes a recent Peennsylvania Supreme Court decision that seems to restrict the Employer's rights of Subrogation against a negligent party where the employee has no interest in participating in the recovery action. The full article can be found HERE. The actual question asked in the 'Domtar' case was this: "Does Section 319 of the Pennsylvania Workers' Compensation Act, 77 P.S. § 671, allow an employer/insurer to step into the shoes of an injured employee to subrogate against the negligent tortfeasor causing the injuries resulting in the payment of workers' compensation benefits?"IMHO, the implication of the ruling serves to limit the independent rights of the Employer to recover costs associated with a Workers' Compensation claim that impact their Workers' Comp Experience Mod (XMod) and therefore the employer's long-term Workers' Compensation costs. The court was not unanimous on their position and I sense that the judges that chimed in with the minority opinion actually got it right.
It seems like a lot of people have a side hustle these days, a way to make some extra money or pursue the things that really strike their interests. And plenty of people have turned even their most unusual hobbies, dreams and ideas into full-time careers. So how do you know if you'll be able to successfully make the leap from employee to entrepreneur? Here are a few things you might want to check off the list before giving your two weeks' notice.
This year marks 170 years of service to our community since our humble start in 1849.I don't feel that old, but I remember well when our letterhead said proudly at the bottom "Quality Insurance in Every Line Since Eighteen-hundred and Forty-nine"
Pennsylvania and many other States allow Executive Officers of corporations to exclude themselves from Workers' Compensation benefits. This can be viewed as a money-saving opportunity for employers, but it also carries a great deal of risk for the Officers themselves. While the financial benefits seem attractive, this brief article hopes to address some of the concerns that often don't come to light.

One of the questions that we get asked from time-to-time involve running Background Checks for new employees. This topic is a actually a legal / HR issue outside of the insurance area and, as such, we can't give clients any legal or business guidance. At the same time; some of our insurance companies provide resources to clients in this area and we'd like to make those resources available to our clients.I have researched some of these resources and compiled the following list that I hope you might find helpful:
