Citrix was hacked?!? What's up with that?!?
Anyone that has been around computing for a period of time knows the name Citrix. They have been around for a lllloooooonnnnggg time and have lead several tech segments including computer connectivity and remote computing. Sadly, it has been reported that this amazing company has had its systems compromised and the compromise lasted for approximately five months.
According to Brian Krebs (one of my favorite tech-security resources), hackers gained access to Citrix through a technique called 'password spraying', which basically means using a bunch of really common and therefore really insecure passwords to try to log on to a large number of accounts. Imagine if someone insisted on using the word "PASSWORD" or "PASSWORD1" as a password just so they don't forget it!
We've written before about Password Managers and Phishing and many similar Cyber topics... When you read that a prestigious firm like Citrix was hacked by inadequate passords it should give you pause. Isn't it about time that you took your Cyber security seriously and implemented many of these essential measures. I'm just an Insurance Broker / Geek - do some serious reading on the topic and protect yourself with both sound Risk Management practices and Cyber Liability and Data Breach Protection... we will help you in any way that we can!
You can read Brian Krebs' whole story by clicking here but the bottom line is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS USE SECURE RANDOM PASSWORDS like those generated in Password Management Products. One of my personal favorite password management products is LastPass - I currently use LastPass to maintain 1274 unique passwords - remenbering one password for LastPass is a LOT EASIER than remembering six insecure passwords based on my favorite Pet or my kids' initials or whatever 'non-random' items.
